Group 2 Base Oils
Similar to Group 1 Base oils, with the main differences being a higher amount of saturates (above 90%) and lower sulphur content. In general Group 2 Base oils perform better than Group 1 Base oils overall but because they need different refining processes, they are more expensive. Instead of solvent extraction, the distillates are hydro-processed. Lubricants made with Group 2 base oils are of good quality and commonly used in motor oils today.
